Venice is a maze of canals and small streets, whimsical bridges, and colorful buildings. And as with all mazes, you should prepare to find yourself lost a time or two. This is my second visit to Venice. My first was back in 2006 when I was backpacking through Europe and this time I am travelling with my boyfriend and thankfully it is as wonderful as I remembered it.
We arrived in late afternoon by train from Verona and took a water taxi to our apartment. As many had warned, it was expensive (about 70EUR for a 10min water taxi). Our apartment was awesome. Self contained, so we did our own Italian cooking, and ate out on the balcony each evening.
We spent 2 full days looking around and exploring. I still love Venice, so many people complain about the smell and it being too crazy with the tourists but I feel so inspired visiting this place. Made up of 115 tiny islands, boasting 400+ footbridges, 150 canals and architecture built in a mixture Gothic, Byzantine, and Baroque styles what is not to love!
2 days was plenty of time to soak up beautiful Venice before we ventured to the local airport for our return to London.
