    Tanjung Puting National Park

    written by Stacey

Free-roaming orangutans, combined with a storybook journey up a winding jungle river, made this adventure world-class.

Since collaborating with B1G1 last November and aligning my businesses CSR Policy with the UN Global Sustainability Goals I was given the opportunity to go on this short study tour to visit one of the projects that we give to called Friends of the National Park Foundation.

We spent 3 nights on a river boat while visiting the National Park, conservation projects and research centres.   It has been an unbelievable trip and I’m so pleased we were able to capture some of it to share in this short video.

Every year, hectres of forest are burned because of palm oil land-clearing. This has lead to the loss of habitat for the native Orangutans in Borneo. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Bayu Wirayudha at the Friends of the National Park Foundation on the second morning of our trip to Borneo. He showed us some of the land that had been cleared through forest fires and what the foundation are doing to both prevent and recover from deforestation.

He explains the issues and what the FNPF do to help, in this video:

To find out more about FNPF, please visit their website: http://www.fnpf.org

Through education and replanting we can help to restore the natural habitat of the now endangered orangutan.

We also got an opportunity to visit Camp Leakey (based on the name of the famous primatologist) which was founded by the doctor Birute Galdikas, who is now the world’s foremost authority on orangutans, to study wild orangutans.
